DBA Recommends: Jorge Velez
Jorge Velez first experienced some success as Professor Genius in the noughties after a string of releases on cult labels like Italians Do It Better and THISISNOTANEXIT. At the time his sound owed a debt to acts like Goblin and Moroder. Since then he has undertaken a series of releases in a psychedelic house style for L.I.E.S., Rush Hour and Crème Organization as Jorge Velez but in the background his own Templo label has continued to provide a home for his more idiosyncratic works. Roman Birds finds him venturing into terrain previously explored by artists like Eno and Harold Budd with the assistance of some raw modern production licks. It makes for essential listening.
