DBA Recommends: Ikonika
We are big fans of Ikonika here at DBA so it should come as no surprise that when she pulls the trigger on a new release it calls for celebration round these parts. Her edit on the new Version-affiliated singlewhitefemale release is doubly enticing because it finds her leaning in the direction of the house meets UK groove where she started out with her early releases.
singlewhitefemale first appeared on wax last year with the system troubling Basstone remix, courtesy of Scratcha DVA. The track was championed by Loefah via his Rinse FM show and it coins the grimey warehouse techno sound that Swamp have been pushing for years now in their raves. Secret Garden on the flip though was a clue that swf has more to give than just out and out bangers. On this second release, ‘Air Bubble’, the vibe is closer to what you might expect from Sven Weisseman on one of his late night reconstructed house trips and the twisted digital meets analogue sound palette even sways as far as Bruce’s morphing, granular experiments.
For her edit, Ikonika brings her extensive knowledge of the dancefloor to the proceedings, adding resonant clicks and plucks to the squelching backbeat and a tight kick snare combo to boot. She sticks to the original arrangement with a few digressions here and there, but it’s just enough magic dust to ensure that this 10″ will be doing the rounds for a minute yet. Thanks to their vinyl expertise, the Version crew ensure that the cut here is loud and proud. Buy here.
